Russian Helicopters Holding Company (part of Rostec State Corporation) has already signed first contracts for delivery of the new Mi-26T2 helicopter; its mass production was started in May 2015. Mi-26T2 is the latest version of the world’s largest helicopter Mi-26, RIA Novosti reports with reference to Russian Helicopters CEO Alexander Mikheev.
“We presented the upgraded version of the world’s largest helicopter – Mi-26T2 at Le Bourget airshow. The vehicle is in demand and we have already signed some contracts,” Mikheev said at Paris Air Show.
In general, “civil operators from different countries” are interested in the helicopter, he added.
According to the press-service, the upgraded Mi-26T2 helicopter is in line with the latest trends of the aircraft industry. The number of crew members was reduced from 5 to 2-3 ones. The helicopter may be operated under any weather and lighting conditions, both above flat terrain and in mountainous regions. The helicopter is fitted with the glass cockpit.
Mi-26T2 offers high level of flight safety and it is fitted with enhanced ground proximity warning system. The mass production of this vehicle is being carried out by Rostvertol (Rostov-on-Don).
