The deal threatens to invoke US sanctions under CAATSA
India signed a USD5.5 billion deal with Russia on 5 October to acquire five Almaz-Antei S-400 Triumf self-propelled surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems for the Indian Air Force (IAF), officials have said.
"The [two] sides welcomed the conclusion of the contract for the supply of the S-400 long-range surface-to-air missile system to India," declared the joint statement at the end of the 19th annual India-Russia summit in New Delhi headed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
