What government should do is to maintain the justice, i.e. protection of life, liberty and property. Of course, justice is essential in facilitating economic activities. But maintaining justice is not meddling with economy. That is to do what government should do. Meddling means doing what it shouldn't. Since goverment is nothing but organized force, the line between what it should do and should not do can be checked by evaluating the justification of using force.

People may think it is alright for government to be active in economic activities. But keep in mind that this player in markets is the one with guns. It can ostensibly or sneakly turns illegal plunder into legal plunder.
