The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is proposing to ban eating and drinking on the trains! Oh no!
The transit system is rather dirty and the rats found on the tracks are becoming braver and braver by actually going onto the train and running around in passenger packed cars. Not to mention that just last week a spaghetti fight broke out between two female passengers.
Are dirt, rats, litter, and a food fight here and there good enough reasons to ban a hungry traveler’s right to nosh? Well, according to My Fox NY, Board Member Charlie Moerdler thinks it is.
"It's very clear that problems in terms of refuse, in rats, and fires are the direct result of people throwing things down, food, newspapers, whatever," Moerdler says.
The Board Member’s idea was brought up at a committee meeting. An MTA spokesperson stated that the idea was nothing more than part of an informal discussion. Whew!
If food is eventually banned on the subways, will hungry New Yorkers stand for it? What’s some litter and a few rats got to do with it? It’s easy enough to close your eyes as you chow down on a Greek Gyro sandwich. As for the occasional food fight, well, New Yorkers are tough and can duck and swerve with the best boxer around.
Here’s a video that shows what the subway looks like and New Yorkers giving their opinions about banning food on the trains. Be forewarned though, there is a disturbing fast sight of a rat crawling on a passenger. Ugh!
