Quora : What do French people eat for breakfast?
It depends. In general, the French don't necessarily eat much during breakfast. The simple reason for this is a cultural one since lunch and dinner are quite rich and heavy (cream sauces, meats and wine) and a warm dinner in France is served and eaten around 7.45 pm to 8.45 pm. So once you get up in the morning, your stomach is still digesting yesterday's food.
A French breakfast (Le petit dejeuner) is otherwise built around breakfast coffee with some croissant, baguette or similar.
During my childhood years, I observed that a French workers breakfast consisted of a big bowl café au lait with a pack of Gauloises cigarettes and maybe a tartine with marmite.
