People tend to have an impression that the PLA has a large force concentration along the Taiwan strait in preparation for the eventual war. This is actually not the case if one is familiar with the PLA troops deployment. As a matter of fact, the military situation, unlike the rehetoric warfare, remains relatively quiet and stable on both sides of the Taiwan strait. Hence, the notion of PLA forces getting stuck in the littoral areas facing Taiwan strait is simply untrue. The PLA troops in other Theaters of Operations such as Shenyang, Beijing, Chengdu, Lanzhou are adequate to cope with an invasion in western China, not to mention the enormous war mobilization capacity to call on reserves into active service.
To compare US forces with Chinese forces in their capacity to wage wars is like comparing an apple with an orange, since they operate in fundamentally different ways. The US forces wage wars in other countries and continents, as far as 10 thousand km away, while Chinese forces operate on its own territory or its neighbouring countries when conducting cross-border counter-attacks. The US forces feature the most sophiscated weaponry while the Chinese forces feature the largest Army and resilient bravery. To put it simply by a quotation, conveyed to Dr Kissinger by Premier Zhou, of late Chairman Mao: China is prepared for an invasion by the Soviet Union from the north, and an invasion by the US from the south. Wisely, Dr Kissinger immediately responded by saying: Please redeploy the forces prepared for the US invasion to the north, since the US has no intention whatsoever to invade China from the south.
