Trump previously said he is not in a hurry to make any trade deal with China, cause he said China needs his trade deal more than him. Now Trump warned Xi to better show up at the meeting he scheduled during G20 in Japan, otherwise tariffs will be imposed on the remaining $300b goods.

From what I read from oversea medias, China did not confirm Xi will meet Trump yet. That is why Trump made the threat. However, so far, those tariff threats are not working with China, keep mounting new tariffs would probably do nothing real other than hurting ourselves. In another word, Trump has no new trick to play anymore in this game. Back 30 years ago, tariffs would bring jobs back to US. But with tightly integrated world economy, tariffs do not bring most jobs back at all, it merely force manufacture chain to shift to different location. In another words, tariff would not result trade balance, rather just punish other side to gain some advantages. In this process, China will suffer by shifting their supplier chains and exporting markets. At the same time, US companies also suffer losses by reduced margins and cost of sourcing new suppliers, in many cases, just the original suppliers moved to a third country to make the same products for higher prices. So this is a lose-lose game. I just don't see how that would help our future economy at all. We are facing so many internal problems, we need better solutions for all those problems to maintain our good lives. We need to strengthen what we are better now, and fixing our weakness, that requires a smart leader.

Trump is no hurry....then he is in a hurry. Frustration has set in as his tariffs are NOT working. The U.S. trade deficit with China jumped by 27% in May. He backed off the Mexico tariffs when congress "suggested" a possible vote and veto over such tariffs. The U.S. AG trade is gone for good.....the Huawei sanctions will U.S. tech firms with less business. China has found alternative sources for AG and NOW has an incentive to build its own chip sources. More tariffs by Trump will clobber the U.S. retailers....especially the electronics sector......Apple! The U.S. will have NOTHING to sell China. What we will see is the decoupling of the U.S. China trade (15% for China and declining). For China, that is good news.....self sufficiency and achieving tech objectives. With the consumption class in China to number 1 billion by 2030, no problem for domestic manufacture. Meanwhile, the U.S. will STILL by foreign goods....if NOT from China, then from the other 101 nations that it has a trade deficit.

China is moving along, business as usual. Xi is busy....just completed a major visit to Russia....then Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Then planned visits to India and Modi and Japan and Abe. It's possible that Xi's schedule is too busy to travel to the G-20.

BTW....the Chinese media is NOT confirming nor even suggesting that a meeting will take place at the G-20. We know that Trump exaggerates, makes unsubstantiated claims, and lies. It's obvious that he is frustrated....
